Why Is Roku TV Glitching And How To Solve It?

Roku TVs are famous for their durability.

However, they may glitch sometimes, and you will get stuck in this situation for many hours.

But I won’t let it happen again because after seeking help from my friends and the internet, I have found out the reasons behind Roku TV glitching.

Based on the causes, I can solve the problem quickly.

If you encounter the same thing, this guide must be what you need!

I will share my experience right here. Let’s dig into the details!

Why Does Your Roku TV Flicker?

If your Roku TV flickers, there can be many causes. For example:

  • Connection: Check the connections from the Roku TV to other devices, like gaming consoles and cable boxes. If the cables get loose or damaged, they don’t work correctly.
  • Resolution settings: You can get the resolution on your TV too high. When the TV fails to handle it, you will notice glitches on the screen.
  • Software issue: An error in the software may cause the TV to flicker. In this case, check if there is any bug inside it or if you are using outdated software.
  • Power issues: Your Roku may not receive enough power to work. Thus, it will start to glitch.
  • Bandwidth saver: This inactivity timeout function may change the refresh rate of the TV screen. It may also cause it to flicker.

How To Fix Roku TV Glitching?

There can be many reasons for your Roku TV glitching.

Once you’ve found the cause, choose one of the following solutions to fix.

Reboot Your Roku TV

One of the most straightforward methods to fix a glitch in your Roku is to reboot it.

To do it, unplug your TV’s power plug from its power socket.

Meanwhile, you need to press the power button of the TV down and hold it for about 30 seconds.

This process can remove all of the power left in your TV.

This way, when you plug the TV again into the socket, it can reboot.

There can also be problems with the power socket.

Thus, this method may fail. But don’t quit!

You can try plugging your TV into another socket. Then, check for the result.

Check Cables

There are two primary issues with the cables: loose and damaged connections.

Both of them make your Roku TV glitch.

So, check the cables carefully. Things will be simple if the cables just get loose over time.

In this case, you must ensure to securely insert the wires into your TV.

To check if it’s the cause, you should remove all of the cables from their devices. Then, re-plug them.

While checking for loose connections, look for damaged cables, too.

The broken wires can’t remain snug in their outlets anymore.

Luckily, most of those problems are easy to detect.

You can also replace them quickly without spending too much money.

Finally, check the HDMI cords.

These tools are durable, but they may become warped and break down over time. If they are too old, then replace them.

Turn Off Bandwidth Saver

The Roku TV has a feature called bandwidth saver.

As its name suggests, it helps you avoid using too much data.

It will stop streaming if you haven’t used it for four hours.

Unfortunately, this inactivity timeout feature may cause a glitch in your TV.

It happens because the refresh rate changes on its own, making the screen flicker.

To solve this problem, you need to turn off the bandwidth saver feature.

Here’s how:

  • Access the “Settings” menu on your TV.
  • Choose “Network.”
  • Go for “Bandwidth saver” and turn it off.

Update Software

Old versions of Roku software may not support your monitor anymore.

Hence, it can’t handle the high-resolution settings, leading to glitches.

If you want to know whether your Roku requires an update, check on Roku’s official website.

There, you can tell the version number in its specifications.

If your TV is not working with the current software version, you should upgrade it.

It’s the best way to enjoy all of the advanced features.

Updating Roku software is easy. You just need to follow the steps below:

  • Access the “Settings” menu on your TV.
  • Find the system section and choose “System Update.”
  • Inside the menu, you can find the current software version of your TV.
  • Click “Check now” to check for updates.

If any update is available, the Roku player can download and run it automatically.

When the process is complete, the TV will reboot.

Factory Reset

I don’t highly recommend this method because it removes all the data on your device.

Then, it will return to the default settings.

The factory reset also unlinks your devices from Roku.

However, if none of the methods above work, you can try this solution.

Here is how to do it:

  • Access the “Settings” menu on your TV.
  • Choose “Systems” and then “Advanced System Settings.”
  • Tap on “Factory Reset.”
  • Enter the PIN code and start the process.

Call Support

If you have tried all the fixes, but your Roku is still glitching, the last resort must be contacting the customer support team.

The manufacturer may offer a replacement, refund, or repair.

It depends on the condition of your TV and its warranty.

Why Is My Roku Remote Glitching?

Your Roku TV may flicker for many reasons, and so does the remote.

If it glitches, then check for the cases below:

  • Batteries: Dead and weak batteries may make your Roku remote malfunction. Thus, replace them and try again if your remote can recover.
  • Blocked signal: Objects or walls may prevent the remote from working properly. So remove those obstacles out of the way.

Conclusion

You can fix your Roku TV glitch by checking the root of the problem first.

Then, choose one of the solutions below:

  • Reboot or factory reset the TV
  • Check cables
  • Update the software
  • Turn off the bandwidth saver mode

If none of them work, then ask for professional help.

Hopefully, your Roku TV can recover and bring you an ideal experience! Thank you for reading!
